Young Minds Club
YMC Activities
Founded in 2004, the Young Minds Club (YMC) was created to facilitate the holistic development of Malay/Muslim secondary school students, with the objective of enabling these youths to become confident individuals and competent leaders, both willing and able to contribute meaningfully to society.
Through experiential learning activities, YMC's Life Skills and Personal Development programmes provide members with the opportunity to accelerate their development in critical thinking, communication, leadership and networking skills, as well as an enhanced appreciation of real world issues like globalisation, activism, international relations and multi-culturalism.
YMC Members also get opportunities to contextualise and apply these lessons through planning and executing Community Service Projects. Our annual XPDC, an experiential learning outdoor expedition co-organised with SAFF-Perdaus, aim to imbue our members with a strong "can-do" attitude in the face of circumstances outside their comfort zones.
Future Plans
In conjunction with YMC's 5th anniversary, we will be holding our inaugural "Pesta YMC" in November 2008, where we will commemorate the Graduating Class of 2008 and launch a "YMC Alumni Club".
Also in the works are the XPDC 2009 and a Model UN Conference workshop for the Sec 2 cohort, and updates to workshops with the incorporation of new learning methodologies and media.
YMC Sub-Committee
YMC is fully run by a team of dedicated volunteers with the assistance of the MClub Secretariat. Our family of facilitators are a fun and approachable bunch, consisting of an eclectic mix of personalities united by a passion for youth development and civic activism.
The YMC Sub-committee is always open to new ideas and talents to sustain the quality of our programmes. YMC's curriculum is reviewed and refreshed regularly by our team to ensure that it remains relevant. With an incoming pool of volunteers comprising young professionals and YMC Graduates, the future sustainability of YMC programme development looks extremely positive.
New facilitators are introduced to the programme during our Facilitators'
Induction and will go through a service learning workshop, in preparation
for conducting YMC workshops. During the annual facilitators' retreat,
we get the opportunity to bond with fellow facilitators and get the
creative juices flowing for the next programme cycle.
