Professional Outreach

Overview

Young working professionals form a key group targeted by MClub through the Young Professionals Outreach, an initiative started in 2007.  The aim is to connect and engage with a wide reach of young professionals through various activities.  A major component of this effort is to expose young professionals to global, national and community issues of current interest in order to enthuse them to develop a sense of social consciousness and wanting to serve the larger society.

Another aspect is to connect them to various resources (e.g. people, institutions, networks, etc.) which can support their professional and personal development and growth.  For those who are already established in their respective careers and areas of specialization, they are tapped as resource persons for the other MClubprogrammes.

Two flagship events under the Young Professionals Outreach are the Ministerial Dialogues and the Conversations series.

Ministerial Forum

The Ministerial Forum is an important platform for young professionals to engage Singapore’s political leadership on pertinent issues affecting Singapore as well as the Malay/Muslim community.  In the last few years, the forum has featured Minister TharmanShanmugaratnam (The Future We Hold: Perspectives on the Economic Recession, 2009) and Minister Lui Tuck Yew (Being a Global City, 2011).  Annually, a closed-door Post-National Day Rally (NDR) dialogue with Minister Yaacob Ibrahim is also held involving selected young professionals from various fields and background to discuss the key issues raised by Prime Minister Lee HsienLoong at the NDR, which will have significant impact on the Malay/Muslim community.

Conversations

A more regular platform of engagement is the MClub Conversations series where young professionals are invited to engage a noted speaker on a broad range of sessions.  About 20-30 participants attend the session to allow for a more frank and open discussion.  Recent speakers who have spoken include MrViswaSadasivan (The Challenges and Opportunities in Public Service), Dr Jackie Ying (Women Leading The Future : Transformational Leadership), DrSuzainaKadir (Muslim Women Leadership in the 21s Century).  Occasionally, MClub collaborates with other partners (e.g. National Youth Council, Shajr, etc.) to capture a wider pool of participants.
